Butler Events Honor and Celebrate Sesquicentennial
History was both celebrated and made at Butler this year. The Sesquicentennial celebration has been like nothing before seen on campus.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community friends gathered to kick off the celebration at a birthday party like no other. More than 2,500 people enjoyed the carnival-like atmosphere culminating in a grand fireworks display at the Holcomb Observatory.
The legendary Hinkle Fieldhouse was the topic of an ESPN documentary, the talents of the Jordan College of Fine Arts came together for an acclaimed Mozart tribute, and virtuoso Joshua Bell returned home to grace the stage of Clowes Memorial Hall.
The campus has been host to Pulitzer Prize winners, a former senator and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, not to mention two former Presidents of the United States.
These events brought thousands of people to Butler's campus, grabbed local headlines and brought the Butler community together to celebrate the values on which the university was founded.
See the links to the left for in-depth coverage of many of the key Sesquicentennial events to date, and then start planning for the big close to the celebration at Homecoming, Oct. 21 & 22, 2006.
